Friends of Lockers Park (FoLP), is where parents can get involved in events at the school and also in raising money for both Lockers Park and many local charities. It has also proved to be a happy and effective way of enhancing the school community and the boys also love it when they see their parent’s getting involved!
It is consists of an informal committee, which changes every year, and it is open to all. The committee is made up of parents from each class, plus Hayley Wilson, the Headmaster’s Wife and Steve Gilden, Head of the Junior School. The idea is to keep the events as stress free as possible, and therefore we welcome contributions from all. As we aim to spread the load, we would love as many people as possible to volunteer at the myriad of events, which range from Bonfire Night and the Christmas Fayre to Macmillan coffee mornings and the legendary Summer Ball. Thus, whether you have special skills to offer or just a willingness to help run a stall for 20 minutes, we are grateful for any offers of help.
This year we have changed the format of how FoLP is structured, and thus have enabled more direct involvement by those who want to be involved. As a result each event will be run by a few volunteer parents who will co-ordinate the actual event, they in turn will be helped by a Core Committee in addition to volunteers from each year group to help man the stalls, etc. as necessary.
Our most recent was The Gatsby Summer Ball in June. This included a champagne reception with canapés, band, music, dancing, auctions, raffle and a vodka luge. It was a huge success and very much enjoyed by all who attended.
Other events we have run over the past year include,
Bonfire Night – with Fireworks, sweet stalls, food and a pumpkin competition. Coordinated by Seema Hill and Genny Snowdon
Macmillan Coffee Morning – Cakes and coffee for children and parents. On the same day as the Year 7 and 8 Informal concert. Coordinated by Ursula Batkin. An amazing £591.76 was raised for Macmillan Cancer!
Christmas Fayre – Many fun stalls, games and gifts and tombola. Plus turkey rolls, hot chocolate and mulled wine. Requests for good quality used toys and unwanted presents will be coming after half term.
As ever, we are grateful for all your support,
The FoLP Committee
