Drama

Drama at Lockers takes many forms. In the classroom, across the curriculum, role-play, public speaking, sketches and film are used to enrich the learning process. Many of the staff are experienced in producing and directing plays and the support of parents is unswerving.

Outside class, the school boasts annual Junior and Senior productions, usually in partnership with the Music department. This year’s Junior play was 'Fleeced', which was a huge success.  The Senior play is performed in the Summer Term and, last year, was an impressive production of ‘Johnny And The Dead’. Both plays provide a large proportion of the boys with the opportunity to experience the thrill of being on stage, usually for the first time. This increases both their confidence in themselves and their understanding of human interaction. Many boys get the chance to help backstage with lighting , sound or props, which encourages the non performers to get involved with drama.

There are other opportunities for the boys to discover public performance during the year: assemblies, debates, Christmas Crackers (an elaborate affair) and a Leavers’ revue.

Recently, the school has extended drama to the mainstream curriculum by incorporating lesson space into the timetable in the Junior Department. A specialist teacher, able to augment their personal awareness and proficiency in the dramatic arts, prepared boys for LAMDA awards for the first time in 2004, with impressive results.

We have also been very proud of our success with drama scholarships. The drama department continues to flourish and help boys to develop confidence and become well rounded individuals.
