Sports & Activities
Through the afternoon games programme and extensive fixture list, the school prides iteself on its strong sporting reputation and offering opportunities for all.
The standard of sport at Lockers Park is high and the school has achieved great success both at local and national levels of competition. The school has close links with many local sports initiatives including the Watford Football Academy. This has ensured that the development of sporting talent has continued outside school as Lockers has produced, encouraged and supported boys who have represented their county in numerous different sports. In recent years, this has led to Lockers boys gaining sports scholarships to a number of public schools in recognition of their inidividual talent.
Football is played throughout the Autumn term and, as with all the major sports, the school fields teams from 1st XI down to Under 8 level. Rugby and Hockey fill the majority of the Spring term, with matches played at all age groups and standards throughout the school. In all three major sports the school has enjoyed success both in IAPS tournaments, and against other notable independent schools. Cross-Country and Squash supplement the main sports and increase the range of opportunities available to the boys. Cross-Country training and competition takes place throughout the spring term term and boys have competed in school and county events. With two well-appointed squash courts the boys at Lockers have ample opportunity to play and improve their squash. Cricket and Athletics are the main focus of the summer term. The school has excellent cricket facilities including both indoor and outdoor nets. High quality coaching has ensured the standard of cricket has continued to rise throughout the school with the 1st XI touring South Africa in 2007 & 2011. Athletics is equally as popular, and successful, with the season culminating in the whole school ‘set athletics’ competition and ‘school finals day’. In previous seasons Lockers has produced National Prep-School champions in the high jump, javelin and 200m. Our own outdoor swimming pool and five tennis courts provide further opportunities during the summer term for all boys to enjoy.
At Lockers Park, you do not have to be a sports star to enjoy games. The games programme caters for all abilities and the activity afternoons offer the opportunity for boys to pursue sports such as .22 rifle shooting, archery, skiing, ju-jitsu and chess.
