Set Science

There was great excitement this morning as the Set Science Competition held the practical science section of the competition. The task was for each Set to design and build two “rockets” that could be launched across the Old Gym. Each team was judged on teamwork, design and distance covered. One Set started making paper aeroplanes, which were going to be incorporated into the rocket design. Several others followed their lead. The launch pad was a plastic tube and the fuel was air pressure. A bit like real launch controls each team had to decide on how much fuel to load and what angle to launch at. Once their design was completed each team was allowed 3 launches. They could launch either one or two of their rockets. A bit like in real life there were some fantastic successes and there were also some absolute failures that failed to launch due to a poor build. The final results of the competition will be announced in assembly next week.
