It is that time of year again, when the nights are longer than the days and our grounds are starting to look autumnal. Taking our Year 1 & 2s out, he first thing we noticed were the squirrels and jays hunting for nuts to store over the winter. Our grounds have a large number of mature trees, so the animals do very well. We’ve also got quite a few horse chestnuts and to me that means one thing – conkers! The children went hunting and each found some conkers. This was when they were introduced to the ancient and noble sport of conkering. There was great excitement as the first conker was defeated and James had his first “oner”. I expect we’ll see a few more battles over the coming days.
