Long gone are the days when our food was sourced locally. This was really brought home when Fr Benjamin Weitzmann, Curate at St John’s, Boxmoor, came to talk to us at our Harvest Service. Bananas from Costa Rica, lemons from Argentina, kiwis from New Zealand and apples from Boxmoor. A total of 24,365.5 food miles – but at least we have more choice! Fr Weitzmann explained that the Harvest service is a relatively new thing, dating from Victorian times to enable people to thank God for the harvest. Many thanks to all of those who donated food – this will be going to the local food bank.
