Poetry Competition

Over the last three weeks the school has been buzzing, especially during reading periods. EVERY boy in the Prep School has learnt a poem and they’ve all been giving performances. Last night was the culmination – the Poetry Competition. 28 boys, representing every form, took to the stage in front of an audience of parents and pupils. I’m very pleased I wasn’t judging, as I felt the Judges, Mr Erskine-Naylor, Mr M. Phillips and Mr P.Wilson had an almost impossible task! The quality of the recitals was outstanding – it all came down to clarity and presence on stage and there was fierce debate amongst the Judges themselves about who was the top poet. Very well done to Otto, winner of the Cs’ and to Edward who was highly commended. The Bs’ winner was Patrick, with Harry highly commended. In the As’ it was Samir who came out on top with Magomed highly commended. The overall winner, one of if not the youngest boy on the stage, was Otto. Very well done to ALL of the boys who took part – it was an outstanding event. Many thanks to Mrs Simms for organising everything, to all of the English teachers for preparing the pupils so well and to the Judges for their decisions.
