Microrganisms

Science is very popular at Lockers Park, probably because it is such a hands on subject. This term the Year 6’s are learning about microbes. Did you realise that 57% of the cells in the human body are not human? Those 57% belong to bacteria, fungi and viruses that live in and on our bodies. If your hands look clean, look again. There are probably 6000 bacteria lurking there – do wash your hands before meals! It seemed very appropriate on a day where over 100 people have been infected with e-coli that we did some research into microorganisms in our lesson. Today the pupils devised a series of experiments to see which were the best conditions for mould to grow on bread. They had to make sure it was a “Fair Test”. We will have to wait a few days for the results – patience is sometimes needed in Science!

After this the boys did some independent research using the class set of iPads. In the Science Department we really do try to encourage the pupils to think and work independently and we try to make the most of the technology we have available.
