Barge Trip

It seems strange that with the Grand Union canal on our doorstep that we don’t use it more, but today Mr Iqbal put that to rights. He took the boarders plus some of their friends for a day barging with Waterways Experiences. On barges “Close Shave” and “Sheldrake II” nineteen boys enjoyed travelling down The Grand Union towards London. At Abbots Langley fish and chips were delivered for lunch and we managed to get as far as The Grove before the barges were turned around. For many of the boys it was their first experience on a barge and they all seemed to really enjoy it, especially operating the locks and steering the barge. Many thanks to our crews – Malcolm, Martin & Margaret and to John, Chris and Pete who did a fantastic job. Also many thanks to Mr Iqbal and Mrs Ashburner for organising the trip.
