Year 6 went to Tate Britain to look at work by some of the most famous British artists in history – Joshua Reynolds, Turner, Hogarth etc. Mrs Hill spoke about the artists and their paintings with a particular focus on the colours they used and the stories behind the pictures. In the afternoon they split into two groups and had a Tate led workshop. Working with a partner who was blindfolded one pupil had to describe a painting in great detail – the blind folded person then had to try and draw it. They also had a go at making their own sculptures – they used tape, string, cardboard tubes, two mirrors, cotton, sticks and Elliot to create a structure. Many thanks to Mrs Hill for organizing the trip and Mr M. Phillips and Miss Hale for their help today.
