Five FAQs About Joining Reception at Lockers Park

We get lots of questions from parents enquiring about our Reception class, so we have answered the five most frequently asked questions in this short video.

  1. What is a typical day like in Reception?
  2. How big are your class sizes?
  3. What after school activities can my child do?
  4. Why choose a boys’ only school?
  5. When should I enquire?

You can also jump straight to the specific question you want to watch answered, in the videos below.

What is a typical day like in Reception?

Our school day in Reception starts at 8.45am, but we welcome children to join us from 7.30am for our early wraparound care activities. We offer a balance of activities, from teacher-led activities for phonics and maths through to creative child-initiated play activities, that allow the children to explore the things that most interest them.

Our children love going up to our Prep School to have specialist lessons in art, PE, drama and computing. Every week we have a Nature and Environment class, to explore our beautiful 23 acres of woodland at Lockers Park.

We end each school day with story time, and many children choose to stay for wraparound care until 6pm, taking part in activities such as Zen Zone or the Lockers Park Warriors Running Club.

How big are your class sizes?

In our Pre-Prep our classes typically have between 10 and 14 children. Small class sizes are a feature at Lockers Park; all the way up to Year 8 in our Prep School. We have an absolute maximum of 16 boys per class. This means that each child gets lots of individual attention, and our teachers know the children – not just by name, but by personality too.

What after school activities can my child do?

We offer wraparound care from 7.30am to 6pm for our Pre-Prep children, where they can take part in a range of fun activities, such as art and games. When they reach the Prep School, the children can stay until 7.30pm and take part in activities such as chess, skiing and Scouts. Wraparound care is included in the tuition fees; there are no extra costs.

Why choose a boys’ only school?

A boys’ only education has many benefits. We tailor our education to best suit boys, ensuring our lessons are kinesthetic and interactive; allowing them to play outside to help run off extra energy, and in the Prep school we play structured sport every day. We understand boys’ emotional needs and our pastoral team helps look after their wellbeing. We are proud to be a boys’ only school.

When should I enquire?

We have had a healthy level of interest for our Reception class for September 2021. We love to keep our class sizes small and intimate, so now is the time to get in touch to enquire about a place.
