Sport is an important part of life at Lockers Park and all boys take part in sports and activities every day. We are proud of our sporting history with many boys representing the school at local, county and even national levels. Football, Rugby and Cricket are the major sports for the boys and we enjoy success in all of these areas.
“Both day and boarding pupils enjoy success in many areas beyond the classroom due to the notable range of opportunities and encouragement from the staff.” The Independent Schools Inspectorate – 2017
Lockers Park strives to achieve top standards but just as important is allowing every boy to be involved and our sport for all programme ensures that everyone has the opportunity to represent the school in competitive matches. This builds confidence, self-esteem and team spirit, whilst improving physical fitness. Indeed, our recent ISI Inspection noted: “The opportunities offered help pupils build confidence, self-esteem and team spirit.”
Parts of the week are designated for ‘minor sports’ which include a whole host of activities such as ju-jitsu, basketball, badminton, cross-country running, golf, hockey, shooting, squash, swimming, tennis and much more. We also run a weekly ski/snowboard club where we make use of the real snow centre only a few miles away.
Our games provision is underpinned by excellent sports facilities within our 23 acre grounds which include a spacious sports hall, an Astroturf pitch, a heated outdoor swimming pool, 5 tennis courts, a croquet lawn, putting green, 2 squash courts and a .22 shooting range. All the sports are coached by fully qualified members of staff and the boys are encouraged to be involved in, and try out, as many activities as possible.
There are regular ski trips to Europe and, every two years, our 1st XI Cricket team tours South Africa – a wonderful experience for the boys.
